Guide
The guides are written by Matteo De Min, who develops MoneyLeft in Castellamonte (TO). The basic calculation is always the same: what came in during the cycle, minus what you’ve spent and what is still to go out, divided by the days left until payday.

MoneyLeft is developed by Matteo De Min, Frazione Sant’Antonio 148/4, 10081 Castellamonte (TO), Italy, VAT no. IT13334350017, REA TO-1355715. The same information is in the footer of every page of the site; name and contact details are also on the app’s App Store listing. This is not financial advice: the guides explain how to do the sums, not what to do with your money.
In the app, the calculation works like this:
The calculation happens on your phone. It is not artificial intelligence and it is not sent to anyone.
Every number in the examples in the guides is calculated with a small program, not by hand, with amounts rounded to the cent. The amounts are invented to explain the method: they are nobody’s averages and they don’t tell you how much you should spend.
The 50/30/20 rule is described in All Your Worth by Elizabeth Warren and Amelia Warren Tyagi (2005). The rest is arithmetic that you can recheck with a calculator.
